Duranail meets NSX 3.5 minute road movie well, not often that i take the Duratec Caterham out on the road ... guess when i do the result is something like this. 4.5 minute track & road action movie 6726 frames long, hours and hours of precomp rendering, over 150 gigabytes of disk space used, lots of fun and experimental grading, lightning quick editing, crossfades, multiple overlays, static frames, slow-mo, speed ramping, and a general opportunity to have some fun with adobe after effects again. Looking at it now, theres dozens of things (it was done for experiementation rather than as a polished product !) that I'd change and some bits work far better than others.... it was done at full PAL resolution to be put onto DVD so it was eating up a lot of disks and time so I called it a day at the level it's at. STill, its well worth a download and is far superior to the sussexblat movie. Hmmm, making a tiny low res version would be a real crime so lowest is a 65mb wmv. Okay so it wasn't exactly 2002 in 1995 but there's nowhere else to put it. A three minute movie of my old Esprit S4 (the ex-birmingham motorshow car) charging down the lanes. I managed to grab this from a very old VHS and way back then I edited a montage together using two VHS decks .... long before the digital age of course. I haven't spent too much time on this so don't expect a Sussex Blat type film but I did manage to shorten a lot of the clips, add in a few cuts on the beat and change the music to something better than before.

11mb WMV avi movie Quality is of course pretty dire: Hi8 to vhs master, vhs master to another vhs to make an editied version, that vhs dug out 7 years later and transferred to DV, DV footage captured and recompressed back through real & windows media ... etc.. Before you mail me, the uptempo bossonova-ish track is by "marcus valle" entitled, "Bar Ingles". SUSSEX BLAT May 2002 Update: this video has proven massively popular; on just the first day it was online the larger WMV movie was downloaded some 1503 times ! Links to it started appearing all across the web. The real file may have been accessed even more but I had no way to track it. Some people however, reported stuttering problems with the WMV file so I have now replaced that with a newer improved 28mb version. Please do not discount the real version though, there is very little difference... people just think real is bad because its always associated with tiny 600K porn loops that are some of the worst quality ever seen on the net ! In my mind, Real is the very best compression/size compromise and certainly whips anything you can play on quicktime. A run through sussex down to Devils Dyke courtesy of Ruggs from the lotus BBS. Dozens of elises of all shapes and sizes and then me in the SLR. My external mic seems to have gone bust and the camera was switched off during the inital fast twisty part of the run so I've had to jazz things up a little and add some music. STill lots of nice fast movement and also me holding my tonneau on as the wind threatens to rip it off at some ludicrous speed - well worth the download wait and don't forget to turn it up loud !

IN SEARCH OF THE R500 A quick visit to Brands in part, to check out this blue Caterham R500 and see it in action (although I had already witnesses it twice already at brands this year !). Very quick, very loud and capable of 48 seconds for Brands Indy .... I can believe it ! Having said that, the Red Mk1 turbocharged Golf (famous from its fast Bedford Time up at the howfast.com ) was also extremely quick... I can only guess that it has in excess of 350bhp and weigh maybe 700-800kg (as well as being well driven of course). BOLNEY 2002 Bolney Stage, Japanese Performance Car meet. A huge turnout this year, at least twice the number of cars compared to 2001 with huge posses of skylines, evos, scoobys, supras, FTO's, Pulsars, CRX's, Celicas and virtually every performace Jap car money can buy ... suzuki cappucinos would you believe and of course a few Civic type R's. The skyline turnout was pretty impressive esp. being the daddy of the Jap world. The usual EVO hooligans but sadly just x1 evo 7 spotted.
